Museum of Eastern Bohemia

Founded in 1880, this institution is the largest and most significant museum in the region. It is housed in a National Cultural Monument designed by architect Jan Kotěra and constructed between 1909 and 1912. The building is an iconic example of Secession architecture and is noted for its functionalist interiors.

The museum operates as a research center managing extensive collections in archaeology, history, and natural sciences. Permanent exhibitions detail local history and include specialized information regarding the Austro-Prussian War of 1866. The institution also manages the Museum of the War of 1866 located in Chlum.

A rooftop terrace is accessible to the public, offering views of the surrounding area. On-site facilities include a shop with a selection of books and souvenirs. Various seasonal exhibitions and cultural events are organized regularly throughout the year.
