Kotouč Hill

This 520-meter-high limestone hill is a significant archaeological site with a history of habitation stretching from the Neolithic period through the La Tène period. It once featured a prehistoric hillfort and later a Slavic hillfort. During the 1241 Tatar raids, the location served as a vital refuge where a fort was constructed to protect the local population.

The site is noted for its rich paleontological deposits, though industrial activity has heavily impacted its physical form. Extensive limestone mining resulted in the removal of the original peak and much of the hill's natural structure. Historically, the area was also known as a habitat for the Apollo butterfly.
