Huayna Potosí Mountain

Reaching an elevation of approximately 6,094 meters, this peak is a prominent destination for mountaineering. The mountain offers a variety of climbing routes, ranging from relatively simple glacier ascents to technical climbs on its more challenging faces.

The normal ascent route consists of a glacier climb that involves navigating crevasses and a steep final section to reach the summit. Alternatively, the West Face is a 1,000-meter-high face featuring several difficult snow and ice routes. Base camps are established at Zongo Pass and Rock Camp to support these climbs.

The first recorded ascent of the normal route was achieved in 1919 by Rudolf Dienst and Adolf Schulze. Although sometimes categorized as an accessible 6,000-meter peak, the ascent requires mountaineering equipment to manage hazards like crevasses and steep ice.
