The tower is a stone lookout originally completed in 1887 and erected by the Brno section of the Austrian Tourist Club. The structure stands on a hill at about 496 metres above sea level and was made accessible to tourists when first opened.
The tower underwent several reconstructions, notably in the 1970s and in 2008–2009, with the later works including an increase in height to improve views; the current height is 17 m. The structure provides panoramic views of the surrounding karst landscape and has also been used as a television transmitter.
