The structure was designed by Emily Elizabeth Ward and reached completion in 1857. While it originally functioned as a clock tower, it began serving as a lighthouse in 1865. The tower stands 29 meters high and remained an active navigational beacon until 1952.
The lighthouse was eventually decommissioned when the construction of nearby buildings began to obstruct its light. Although it no longer guides ships, the historic tower continues to function as a clock tower and remains a significant architectural landmark.
