Established in 1680 to defend the southern approach to the naval city of Karlskrona, this site is the world's longest continuously used military installation. It remains an active military facility and holds UNESCO World Heritage status as a significant part of the region's naval history.
The architecture is characterized by a unique circular harbor featuring a narrow entrance to the sea. The grounds also include an exotic park with plants brought back by the navy over several centuries, alongside a fortress museum that documents the long history of the fortification.
Access to the site is restricted and is only possible through guided tours.
