Founded in the mid-13th century, this architectural site combines an early Gothic fortress with a Renaissance chateau. The complex showcases a variety of styles, including Baroque and Renaissance Revival, with historical contributions by the architect Marco Antonio Canevalle. It is associated with the Clam-Gallas noble family and Albrecht von Wallenstein.
The complex features the first castle museum in Central Europe, which opened to the public in 1801. The interiors are furnished with a rich collection of original furniture, paintings, and diverse historical exhibits. Notable highlights include extensive armouries and authentic 19th-century noble apartments.
Situated on a basalt rock, the site is accessible via several guided tour routes. These routes lead through the medieval castle's rooms, the armory, and the chateau's residential spaces.
