Originally constructed in 1580, this historic fortress was established to defend against pirate raids. During World War II, the site served as a British headquarters. It is currently a significant historical monument and recreational area open to the public.

The grounds feature the Skansin Lighthouse and a collection of preserved artillery. The site contains cannons dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, alongside weaponry used during the Second World War.

Located on a hill by the seafront overlooking the harbor, the fort serves as a prominent vantage point. It provides panoramic views of the surrounding area and across the water to Nólsoy Island.
