Founded in 1776 by the monk Vartholomei Krivoruchko, this Orthodox monastic complex is a designated national monument. It consists of the Annunciation rupestrian monastery and the land-based Holy Trinity Monastery. The site serves as a male monastery and a major pilgrimage destination known for its 18th-century architecture and spiritual significance.
The complex includes a rock-carved church and houses sacred relics, including those of the Blessed Macarie (also known as Saint Macarius). A sacred spring with healing properties is located on the grounds. On a nearby cliff, a rock preserves a legendary footprint attributed to Saint Maria, also known as the Virgin Mary.
The surrounding landscape is defined by rocky hills, forests, and the Nistru River. The area features numerous waterfalls, including the notable Saharna Waterfall, and various archaeological sites. The monastery is open to the public and functions as a center for historical preservation.
