Established in 1855 by the society Sällskapet DBW (Society of the Friends of the Baths), this botanical garden was influenced by the botanical studies of Carl von Linné. Its position, protected by city walls near the sea, creates a unique microclimate that permits the cultivation of exotic plants and extensive rose collections not typically found in the country.
The grounds feature the medieval ruins of St. Olof's church in the southern section. The site includes specific historic areas such as Gotlandsänget, Paviljongsplan, and a specialized herb garden. It is situated adjacent to the Strandpromenaden.
The garden serves as a public park and a venue for cultural activities, including concerts, music events, and guided tours. It is also used for weddings and remains accessible throughout the year.
