This Cultural Heritage Site is characterized by a regular rectangular layout and a well-preserved system of streets. The perimeter consists of historic burgher houses featuring multistylistic facades and characteristic Renaissance and Baroque arcades. The area is designated as a protected urban monument reservation and was named the Most Beautiful Square in the Czech Republic in 2015.
Central landmarks include a Marian Column and a fountain decorated with a bronze sculpture depicting a dancing peasant couple. Significant buildings include the town hall and the Stará pošta (Old Post Office) house. The Návštěvnické centrum Nový Jičín (Visitor Center) is also situated here to provide local information and services.
The square functions as a pedestrian-friendly hub for markets and cultural events. It is recognized for its architectural significance, often cited as one of the most picturesque squares north of the Alps.
