Originally constructed in 1708 as a Baroque hunting lodge, the building later served as a summer residence for Duchess Kateřina Vilemína Zaháňská (also known as the Duchess of Sagan). During the Napoleonic Wars, the site hosted significant diplomatic meetings. The structure eventually underwent transformations into its current Empire style, also incorporating Neo-Classical and Biedermeier elements.
The chateau features authentic, period-furnished living quarters once inhabited by the Duchess of Sagan and the princely family of Schaumburg-Lippe. These interiors showcase the lifestyle of the nobility through late Classical and Empire designs. The site is designated as a National Cultural Monument.
The complex is deeply connected to the novel Babička by the writer Božena Němcová. Beyond the main chateau, the grounds include a historic mill and the Staré Bělidlo cottage. Guided tours are available for the chateau interiors, the mill, and the cottage.
