Acri is a town of 19.949 inhabitants in the northern part of Calabria region in southern Italy. Since 17 September 2001 Acri has had the "status" of city.Acri's coat of arms is represented by three mountains surmounted by three stars, with the words: "Acrae, Tri Vertex, Montis Fertilis, U.A.".
The oldest known heraldic coat of arms of the city of Acri is present on the door of the church and convent of San Domenico, a stone coat of arms made in 1524, together with the coat of arms of the feudal families of the time, the princes San Severino da Bisignano.
The etymology of the word Acri could derive from the Greek ακρα which means peak.
