This Baroque palace complex was designed by architect Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt as a summer residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy. The ensemble, which dates back to 1714, consists of the Upper and Lower Belvedere and is surrounded by formal gardens.
The museum within the complex showcases 800 years of art history, with a focus on Austrian art from the Middle Ages to the present. The collection includes Gustav Klimt's famous painting "The Kiss." Exhibits are distributed across the palace buildings, featuring permanent displays, contemporary works, and rotating special exhibitions.
Historically, the palace served as the site for the signing of the Austrian State Treaty in 1955, which restored independence to Austria. The institution provides guided tours, workshops, and inclusive programming.
