This open, spacious park, located near the center of Boston City, is the oldest public park in the US. It is a wonderful destination for picnics, sports and relaxing amongst the greenery. The park also featured in the popular TV show Ally McBeal and fans of computer games may recognize the location from the latest addition to the Fallout game series, Fallout 4.
While Boston Common was established as early as 1634, it has not always served as a public park. During its 350-year-old history, it has also been used as a grazing pasture, a place of punishment for criminals, until finally becoming the seeked-out spot for public meetings and simple strolls it is today.
The park is part of an interconnected strip of green areas in Boston, called The Emerald Necklace. It is pet-friendly and contains a baseball field, a tennis court, as well as a playground for children. When visiting, remember to take a stroll around its famed Frog Pond.
