Large natural reserve including both terrestrial and marine areas is of great importance for its coral reefs and unspoilt nature.
It is also the driest area in Europe with the average temperature of 18°C (64 °F). The local flora adapted to these conditions includes agaves, dwarf fan palms and opuntias.
