Located in the southern part of the Central Park, the Central Park Zoo is a relatively small zoo, which nonetheless showcases a large number of animal species, including rare animals like puffins, snow leopards or red pandas. There are 4D movies screened here, too.
Although there are three more zoos today in New York, Central Park Zoo is the oldest of them all. It opened in the 1860s, originally as a menagerie. It has undergone several reconstructions since then, the last of them in 1988. It was during this latest reconstruction that the animals were moved from cages to more natural habitats.
The entrance of the zoo is located on the corner next to the 5th Avenue, it can be reached easily by subway or by a bus, as there are several subway and bus stops in the vicinity. You cannot park your car at the zoo, however, it is possible to arrange an online parking reservation for a parking garage near the zoo via Parking Panda. If you want to save some money, the zoo offers a discount for online tickets after filling in a registration form at the Zoo’s official website.
