This palace, one of the Five Grand Palaces, is an imposing example of Korean architecture and history. It was built in the 15th century (by order of the rulers of Joseon dynasty) and since 1997 it is listed on UNESCO World Heritage List.
It is located in a beautiful garden but if you want to visit the garden, you will need the guided tour ticket (the tours are available in English, Korean, Chinese and Japanese). The number of places in tour groups is limited so consider buying your tour tickets online to make sure you will be able to get there when you want to.
The palace was badly damaged during the era of the Japanese occupation of Korea (in the first half of the 20th century) and it is still not fully restored. But it is definitely worth visiting because it is less crowded than Gyeongbokgung while equally beautiful.
