Chances are you have seen this castle in pictures or in films before - it is one of the most photogenic places in all of Scotland. Among the films that were filmed here are e.g. Highlander (starring Christopher Lambert) or the Bond movie The World Is Not Enough (starring Pierce Brosnan).
The 13th-century castle occupies a little island where three lakes meet. Even though it dates back to the 13th century, it was heavily damaged after the Jacobite rebellion in the 18th century and so most of what you see today comes from a vast 20th-century reconstruction of it.
Besides being a popular filming location it is also a popular wedding spot.
(Last admission 1 hour before closing.)
PLEASE NOTE that due to winter weddings, the castle will be completely closed on the following dates: Feb 17 and 28.
