Freetown Christiania

A nation within a nation. This large commune evolved on the site of abandoned barracks in 1971. It is an independent area inhabited by squatters, artists and free-thinking people living according to their own set of rules. One of the most popular attractions in Copenhagen.

This neighborhood is a hip quarter full of life and fun. Wander around and admire the street murals or just enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. Whether you are looking for art galleries, cafés, workshops or a chic place to eat, you will find it around here.

The whole area is car-free. Also, cannabis is sold here freely, especially on Pusher Street, so do not take any pictures or run around the area. It might seem like there's a police raid.
