Gare du Nord, which translates as the Northern Station, is one of the busiest places in Paris. If you arrive in Paris by train, this place might be your gate to the city. Since 1864, when the station was built, it has been an important traffic hub not only for Paris but also for the whole of Europe.
The main building reflects its connection to other European cities through the statues decorating it. Each statue represents one city to which the trains go (e.g. London, Berlin, Frankfurt or Amsterdam).
There are some cafés and gift shops located inside the building. Also, if you travel by Eurostar or TGV, you will depart from this station.
There are several useful facilities to be found there. If you need to have your luggage stored for 24 hours, there is a luggage storage. There are also several lounges where you can rest before your travel. Last but not least, clean public restrooms are to be found there.
