Gehry Residence

Local nameGehry Residence
LocationSanta Monica, California

A unique sight amongst Californian suburbs, this house counts amongst the gems of modern architecture. Its looks and the materials it is made of alone make it quite unusual and worth the visit.

This house was designed by the famous architect Frank Gehry, also known for his work at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, the Walt Disney Concert Hall or the BP Pedestrian Bridge in Millenium Park, Chicago. In repurposing the house Gehry has made use of materials such as a corrugated metal, chain links and light wood frames.

The building as we see it today emerged out of an ordinary bungalow, which Gehry purchased as a home for himself and his family. It has undergone several remodellings since, but it has kept on serving as the architect's residence. Due to this, it is only possible to look at the exterior of the house. The residence itself is not open to the public.
