Griffith Park

Griffith Park, sometimes nicknamed "The LA Central Park", is the largest urban wilderness park in the US, and one of the largest city parks in the US, too. It is also where the iconic Hollywood sign is located.

The park takes its name after the first owner of the land on which it stands, Griffith J. Griffith. The park had undergone several changes of purpose, at one point, it very nearly became an ostrich farm instead of a park. During the Second World War, an internment camp for Japanese Americans and later a processing centre for prisoners of war stood on the park's premises. Finally, in July 2010, the park was expanded for the last time through an addition of 100 acres more, giving it the look it has today.

Inside the park, there are several attractions apart from the world famous Hollywood sign. There is also the Greek Theatre, the Bronson Canyon, or the Griffith Observatory, the area around which features in the recent Oscar-nominated movie La La Land.

It is forbidden to start an open fire in the park, due to safety reasons. Driving faster than 25 kmph is also prohibited.
