The largest structure on the island is devoted to one of the unifiers of the 16th-century Japan, Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Originally designed as a Buddhist library, the building was turned into a shrine later. After the architect's death, the construction stopped and it remains unfinished today - note that the shrine has no ceilings. Sometimes, it is called the Toyokuni Shrine.
