Being the biggest cultural & art market in the country, it provides a common ground for the creators, the customers and the volunteers. While this market does not give out goods for free (like the name would indicate), it proves that everyone is free to join on the fun and showcase their talents.
This place is the "centre of happenings", always full of people, sounds, smells and interesting views. Unlike other markets, this one does not offer second-hand goods. The artists only sell items they have handcrafted themselves, often right in front of your eyes. If you don't feel like buying anything, just come here for the street musicians and various other performers that are an inseparable part of the market.
It provides a unique experience, where the spectators can get up-close with the artists, ask them about their work and back stories. Overall, it´s a great place for exchanging cultural ideas. The majority of the visitors are "hipsters" from the Hongik University.
Most of the accessories sold here are targeted towards teenage girls, but even if you aren't one, it's still a nice experience to have. It is right next to the metro station Hongik University, line 2, exit 9.
