Iranshahr is a city in the Central District of Iranshahr County, Sistan and Baluchestan province, Iran, and serves as capital of the district, the county, and the province.
At the 2006 census, its population was 99,496 in 17,698 households. The following census in 2011 counted 97,012 people in 22,676 households. The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 113,750 people in 27,248 households.Prior to 1935, the city was referred to as Pahrah, also spelt Poora, Poorah, and Pura, meaning "defence" in Persian. The name was changed to Iranshahr by Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi in around 1941.
Pahrah is the site where Alexander the Great celebrated with and regrouped his troops after his Indian conquests. Bampur, where the ancient Bampur fort is located, is nearby the city.
