Lo’ko’ Mata Burial Site

This large boulder dotted with burial chambers across its face is located in Sesean, Toraja Utara. Each burial chamber belongs to a single family and generations of deceased family members are placed in these chambers. According to the Torajan ancestral religion of Aluk Todolo, the higher the burial chamber, the higher the social status of the deceased's family.

The sheer size of the burial site, its location amongst vast, terraced rice fields dotted with boulders, and the cool weather in the mountains of Toraja Utara makes this a popular site for visitors.
