The fourth non-president whose memorial is on the National Mall, and one of the first African Americans who has a memorial at all. It is engraved with some of his famous quotes like "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that." and "Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights. You will make a better person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in."
It's definitely a must-see for everyone, if not for anything else, then for the little reminder to be more humane to each other. This place is right next to the bus stop SW West Basin Dr & SW Independence Ave, DCWE line.
Rangers are on duty to answer questions from 9:30 am to 10 pm daily and to provide interpretive programs throughout the day and upon request.
Free admission.
