Monte San Giorgio

This pyramid-shaped, wooded mountain reaches an altitude of 1,097 meters and is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is internationally recognized for its exceptionally well-preserved record of marine and land-based fossils from the Middle Triassic period, serving as a primary reference point for paleontological research.

The area is noted for its botanical and faunal diversity alongside historical archaeological sites. The landscape transitions from steep slopes to wooded areas, encompassing a variety of natural environments significant for both scientific study and conservation.

The site includes a network of hiking trails and cycling paths. A dedicated fossil museum situated in the village of Meride displays findings from the mountain's geological strata.
