This prehistoric rockshelter is situated at the base of a cliff and contains significant archaeological deposits from the Upper Paleolithic period. Excavations initiated in 1953 have revealed a chronological sequence spanning approximately 47,000 to 17,000 years ago, encompassing the Aurignacian, Gravettian, and Solutrean cultures.

The site is notable for yielding extensive lithic tool assemblages, fragments of parietal art, and human remains. It is classified as a historical monument and is currently managed by the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle.

A portion of the excavation results is presented within a museum setting. The site has been open for public access since 1990, allowing for the observation of prehistoric heritage and archaeological findings.
