The exhibition complex was designed for the 1880 Fair and it is listed by UNESCO as a smashing example of 19th century exhibition buildings. The construction of the dome was influenced by the style of the famous Florence Cathedral.

All tours depart from the adjacent Melbourne Museum and cost $10 for adults, $8 for concession, and $7 for children.
