Sant Jaume Square

Local namePlaça de Sant Jaume
LocationGothic Quarter, Barcelona, Spain

Many administrative buildings and offices are located in this historical part of Barcelona. The square is situated in the heart of the Roman city of Barcino, on the site of a former temple. It has always been a centre of the political life of the city.

It is named after the Sant Jaume Church which is now located between Plaça Reial and Saint James's square. You will find the Palace of the Generalitat of Catalonia here, the seat of the Catalan Government, and the City Hall. The place was also called "Constitution Square“ in the past.
