This Neoclassical church, consecrated in 1905, is the largest church in Budapest as well as one of the two tallest buildings in the city. Its bell tower is 96 meters tall. The basilica also boasts beautiful interior decorations, as well as a mummified hand of a dead saint.
Almost everything in this church is connected with Saint Stephen, the first king of Hungary who lived at the turn of the first millennium AD. Standing on the St. Stephen's Square, it carries the saint's name and its bell tower hides the Great St. Stephen Bell, the biggest bell in Hungary. You can even admire a holy relic, which is said to be the king's own right hand brought back from the Holy Lands, in the Holy Right chapel.
The lookout at the top of the basilica is open to visitors for an additional fee. Thanks to recent renovations, it is now accessible by an elevator.
If you enjoy music, time your visit so as to catch one of the concerts, frequently hosted by the church. You can check the exact dates on its official website.
