The Bridge on the River Kwai

Local nameสะพานแควใหญ
LocationKanchanaburi province, Thailand

The infamous bridge was built during the WWII by about 60,000 prisoners mainly from Britain, Australia, and the Netherlands. The railway became known as "Death Railway" since many of the prisoners died due to severe working conditions. It inspired several movies, such as 1957 film The Bridge on the River Kwai or the recent Railway Man starring Colin Firth. The bridge is still in use today.
