Located in the Holyrood area of the city, this gem of modern architecture houses the Scottish Parliament since 2004. The building was designed by Spanish architect Enric Miralles and from the first look at it, you can see that it borrows shapes and features from nature itself. Marvel at the exterior and its leaf-shaped walls, or relax by the artificial pond built next to it.
The parliament offers an exciting opportunity to experience the political life of Scotland. Public areas are freely accessible and you can even attend debates and committee meetings if you book your visit in advance. You can also take one of the specialised tours or visit the exhibition on the first floor. The parliament is also home to a nice gift shop.
Guided tours are available and are recommended to be booked in advance.
Open on public holidays from 10 am to 5 pm.
Admission to the Parliament is free, as well as guided tours. Note that you have to pass a security check to be admitted to the building.
Advance booking is advised for guided tours.
