Thurzo's House in which the central Slovakian museum is housed, was first mentioned in the 15th century when it was used for trading purposes by the Thurzo family. It was almost completely destroyed during World War II and there were plans for its demolition, however, precious wall paintings in the Green Hall prevented this from happening.
Its permanent exhibition portrays the city's development from early prehistorical times, medieval times up to the 20th century.
