Vatnajökull National Park

Local nameVatnajökulsþjóðgarður
LocationIceland

The largest national park in Europe boasts numerous glaciers, waterfalls and many other intriguing landscape features. It is named after Vatnajökull - Iceland's largest glacier. Covering more than 8 percent of the island, the size of the glacier provided numerous great places for shooting a variety of scenes for the popular television series Game of Thrones.

Founded in 2008, the national park now includes the former Skaftafell and Jökulsárgljúfur National Parks. The park is also home to Iceland's highest mountain (Hvannadalshnúkur) and the most powerful waterfall in Europe (Dettifoss).
