Velipojë

Velipojë is a village and a former municipality in Shkodër County, northwestern Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became a subdivision of the municipality Shkodër. The population at the 2011 census was 5,031.



Velipojë is situated on the estuary of the Buna river, where it flows into the Adriatic Sea while constituting the natural border with Montenegro. The administrative unit of Velipojë has a population of around 10,000, spread over several small settlements, the largest of which is the town of Velipojë itself. Since 2005, Velipoje lies within the boundaries of Buna River-Velipoja Protected Landscape.
