Standing in the middle of a roundabout, this obelisk was erected in 1941 and commemorates the Thai victory in the Franco-Thai War. The five statues depicted at its base represent the army, navy, air force, police, and militia.
In 1945, Thailand was forced to give back the territories it had gained during the conflict and the monument became rather an inappropriate symbol of militarism.
