Vila Assunção

Vila Assunção is a neighbourhood in the city of Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil. It was created by Law 2022 from December 7, 1959, being located on the bank of Guaíba Lake.

Vila Assunção was named after José Joaquim Assunção, who lived here in his chácara. When he died, his widow made a deal with the Di Primio Beck company in order to urbanize the region.

The neighbourhood is predominantly residential made up of people from the upper middle class and upper class. However, some upscale shops, restaurants and parties have been installed there in the last fifteen years, as well as in the neighbouring Tristeza.
