Founded in 1869, this Shinto shrine is devoted to those who died in wars in the 19th and 20th century. It has been hugely controversial since 1978, when it was discovered that fourteen class A war criminals had been enshrined on the premises, too.
Do not forget to visit the adjacent military and war museum commemorating the wars that involved Japan.
