This iconic park is the first national park in the U.S. and possibly the first national park in the world. It covers the area of over 8800 square kilometres, and about a half of the world's geothermal features (hot springs, geysers and similar) are located here.
It is home to an immense amount of animal species (many of them endangered or very rare in the United States), for example, a large elk herd, one of the very few grizzly bear populations in North America, wild bison herds, wolverines and many more.
Yellowstone is also known for its geysers and hot springs. Some of the better-known ones are the Mammoth Hot Springs, which carved its way through limestone and created terrace-like shapes, and the Norris Geyser Basin, which is also the hottest geyser in the park.
The park is a part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
The park is truly one of the biggest natural wonders in the world, so please do bear in mind some safety and ecological precautions to minimize your impact on this place and to ensure your own security.
The park is open daily all year round. Please, check the official website for possible weather alerts.
