This settlement and its area served as a monastery from the 10th century and it was one of the oldest monasteries in Slovakia. It perished over time and in its place a new monastery was built, its ruins you can now visit.
Interestingly, a hospital stands in the area of the old monastery.
It's a nice stop on your hike if you are heading further up. Close by is also a small cave of Svorad which is free to enter for public.
