Natural Wonders

This collection highlights the diverse geological features of Northern Greece, from the 2,917-meter summit of Mytikas on Mount Olympus to the subterranean formations of the Cave of Alistrati. The list includes the high-altitude peaks of the Voras range and the unique natural granite pools, known as vathres, found on Samothrace island. Notable water features include the Leibadite waterfall, the tallest in the region, and the turquoise travertine pools of Skra. These sites represent the significant ecological and mythological landscapes of Macedonia and Thrace.

Mytikas

The highest peak of Mount Olympus and Greece, reaching an elevation of 2,917 meters. In Greek mythology, it was recognized as the meeting place of the twelve Olympian gods.

Ourlias

A series of waterfalls and natural swimming pools located on the eastern slopes of Mount Olympus near Litochoro. The site is characterized by its clear mountain water and smooth rock basins.

Katarraktes Leibadite

Also known as Trachoni, this 60-meter waterfall is among the tallest in the Balkans. It is located in the Rhodope Mountains near the village of Livaditis.

Kajmakčalan

Kajmakčalan, or Kaimaki or Kaimaktsalan or Voras, is a mountain on the border between Greece and North Macedonia.

Pangaion Hills

The Pangaion Hills are a mountain range in Greece, approximately 40 km from Kavala. The highest elevation is 1,956 m at the peak of Koutra.

Katarraktes Enippea

Situated within the Enipeas Gorge on Mount Olympus, these falls are accessible via the E4 hiking trail. They are located near the historic Old Monastery of St. Dionysios.

Skra

Known for its Emerald Lake, these waterfalls near Kilkis feature turquoise waters caused by calcium carbonate deposits. The area includes several small falls and a lush forest environment.

Cave of Alistrati

A 3-kilometer-long cave system featuring rare eccentric stalactites and stalagmites. It is one of the largest caves in Europe, maintaining a constant internal temperature of 17°C.

Katarraktes Phonias

The most famous waterfall on Samothrace island, dropping 35 meters into a deep natural pool. It is the first major fall along the Fonias River canyon.

Gria Vathra

A sequence of natural pools and waterfalls on Samothrace, located near the village of Therma. The site is known for its ancient plane trees and tiered rock basins.
