This medieval fortress, originally constructed in the late 12th century, served a strategic role during historical conflicts including the Albigensian Crusade, the Hundred Years' War, and the Wars of Religion. The structure is a restored, privately owned castle that overlooks the river and provides views across the surrounding valley.
The castle houses the Museum of Warfare in the Middle Ages, which contains an extensive collection of period weapons and armor. Outdoor spaces feature full-scale reconstructions of siege engines. The site is open to the public and records more than 245,000 annual entries.
Educational programming includes live demonstrations and specific activities designed for families. Exhibits focus on the evolution of military technology and fortification throughout the medieval period.
