The site features a residence that was originally a medieval castle before being rebuilt as a country home. Its facades and roofs were listed as historical monuments in 1948. The current structure is set within an estate that has been open to the public since 1996.
Originally designed in the French formal style, the gardens were significantly transformed after 1861 by Julien de Cerval. He introduced over 150,000 boxwood trees hand-pruned into rounded, fantastic shapes. The landscape also incorporates cypress trees, cyclamens, and romantic structures inspired by Italian designs but adapted to the local soil.
The grounds offer six kilometers of walking paths across multiple levels. A major feature is the Belvedere, a viewpoint recognized as a 3-star attraction in the Michelin Green Guide for its panoramas of the Dordogne valley and nearby castles.
