This Renaissance and Neo-Gothic castle, with origins dating back to 1060, is a classified national monument. The current architecture primarily reflects 16th and 19th-century styles, though medieval elements such as a drawbridge remain. The interior contains the private apartments of the Colbert family, a prominent French noble house.

Beneath the structure lies an extensive underground fortress, featuring a troglodytic network carved into the tuff stone. This system includes a 12th-century basement, former seigneurial residences, stables, kitchens, and a patrol path. Approximately 3 kilometers of galleries were historically utilized for refuge and shelter, and the site is noted for having some of the deepest moats in France.

The estate operates an active winery with 30 hectares of vineyards, continuing a tradition of wine production that began in the 17th century. The underground cellars house ancient presses and are used for wine tourism activities. The winemaking philosophy emphasizes environmental sustainability and ecological respect. Tours of the castle and its unique cave system are available to the public.
