Cozumel's marine ecosystem features a diverse range of underwater environments, from the protected lagoons of Xel-Há to the challenging currents of Barracuda Reef. This selection includes the El Paso del Cedral Reef, known for its dense fish populations, and Cantarell Sand Reef, a seasonal gathering spot for spotted eagle rays. On the island's windward side, Chen Rio provides a calmer alternative with natural tide pools formed by limestone rocks, offering a unique contrast to the deep-water scuba sites along the western coast.

Chen Rio

Located on Cozumel's eastern shore, this area features a natural lagoon protected by a large rock formation. The shallow, calm waters and sandy bottom create a sheltered environment for snorkeling away from the island's stronger currents.

Cantarell Sand Reef

This dive site, often called Eagle Ray Wall, is characterized by a steep drop-off and sandy slopes. Between January and March, it is a primary location for observing schools of spotted eagle rays migrating through the area.

Barracuda Reef

Situated on the northern tip of Cozumel, this advanced dive site is defined by high-speed currents and vertical walls. Divers frequently encounter large schools of barracuda, hammerhead sharks, and other pelagic species in the deep water.
