Natural Wonders of Lourdes

Lourdes is defined by its dramatic Pyrenean landscape, featuring limestone caves and prominent mountain peaks. The Grotte de Massabielle serves as the religious heart of the city, while the Pic du Grand Jer and Soum d'Ech provide panoramic viewpoints accessible via hiking trails or a historic funicular. Grotte de Massabielle

Site of the 1858 Marian apparitions to Bernadette Soubirous. This natural limestone cave houses a spring and a statue of the Virgin Mary, serving as a focal point for international pilgrimage.

Pic du Grand Jer

A 951-meter peak overlooking the city, accessible via a funicular built in 1900. The summit features a large cross, a botanical trail, and 360-degree views of the Pyrenean mountain range.

Sarrazins Caves

This deep cave is a rock tunnel leading up to the castle. Though it is closed, the beautiful stone entrance still attracts many tourists.

Loup Climbing Caves

This cave offers various climbing sites, divided by difficulty level. It is also suitable for children, and offers an afternoon full of fun.

Béout

A mountain peak reaching 792 meters, accessible by hiking trails. It is known for its distinctive geological formations and views of the surrounding valley.

Gouffre du Béout

A deep natural chasm located on the Béout plateau. This geological site has yielded archaeological remains and is a point of interest for speleologists.

Parc de l'You

A municipal park situated along the banks of the Gave de Pau river, providing shaded walking paths and landscaped gardens near the city center.

Place des Tilleuls

A public square characterized by its rows of mature lime trees, offering a shaded space in the heart of the town.

Espélugues

A prehistoric cave system located within the Sanctuary grounds. It is an important archaeological site that has provided evidence of human occupation during the Magdalenian period.

Soum d'Ech

A 913-meter limestone peak offering views of the Batsurguère valley. The summit is a destination for hikers and features diverse local flora.
