Mountain Huts & Shelters

These high-altitude huts and shelters form the backbone of the Rila Mountains' hiking infrastructure, many situated along the E4 European long-distance path. Ranging from historic stone buildings like Skakavitsa—Bulgaria's first mountain hut—to the emergency Ledenoto Ezero shelter at 2,710 meters, these sites provide essential accommodation. Most offer shared dormitories and basic dining facilities, serving as strategic base camps for reaching Musala peak, the Seven Rila Lakes, and the remote Central Rila Wilderness.

Musala hut

Situated at 2,389 meters by the Musala lakes, this is the oldest mountain hut in Bulgaria, originally established in 1923.

Malyovitsa Hut

A primary center for Bulgarian mountaineering and rock climbing located at 1,960 meters in the Malyovitsa valley.

Ivan Vazov hut 2300m - 1 hour from Razdels pass

Located at 2,300 meters in the Pazar-Dere area, this remote hut is one of the highest in the Balkans.

A large, modern facility located at 2,150 meters, situated near the upper station of the Seven Rila Lakes chairlift.

Located at 2,187 meters on the shore of Granchar Lake, serving as a key stop on the E4 European long-distance path.

Situated at 1,300 meters near the Kartala ski resort, providing access to the southwestern Rila peaks.

Located at 1,600 meters within the Semkovo resort area, offering trails toward the central and southern Rila ridges.

The highest mountain shelter in Bulgaria, situated at 2,710 meters. It serves as an emergency refuge just below the Musala peak summit.

A traditional stone and wood hut located at 1,650 meters in a forested area, providing an alternative route to the Seven Rila Lakes.

Bulgaria’s first mountain hut, built in 1921. It is located at 1,876 meters near the Skakavitsa Waterfall.

Known as the "old" hut, it is situated at 2,196 meters by the Fish Lake within the Seven Rila Lakes cirque.

Located at 2,180 meters in the valley of the Maritsa River, this hut is a strategic point on the E4 trail.
